Do You Want To Live An Abundant Life?

An Abundant life! Who wouldn’t want to experience that? Surprisingly, there is a lot of confusion surrounding this topic today. When it comes to abundance, people have very different views on what it is and how much one should have. I have noticed there tends to be two extreme views with the majority of people falling somewhere between the two.

  • The first extreme is the “Prosperity Gospel” mindset: This is a mindset that thinks that God wants all His children to be wealthy because it is a sign of His blessing and approval of your life.
  • The second extreme is the “Poverty Gospel” mindset: This is a mindset that thinks it honors God when you are poor as if having nothing makes you less worldly and thus more holy.

Looking at them honestly, it doesn’t take long to find the holes in each of these extremes. As with many topics, people divide over how to interpret and apply the verses about abundance. As a result, they end up confused and missing out on the abundant life Jesus promised! I don’t want to see you fall into the same trap!

An Abundant Life Is Determined By What’s IN You, Not By The Things Around You!

Too often we confuse abundance with finances and happiness. As long as we have all we need we are happy (provided circumstances are going well) and so we believe we are “experiencing abundance”.

Think about this:

  • Jesus didn’t own anything, yet He lived an abundant life. Scripture says He was a “man full of sorrows”, yet it also says His “joy was full”! 1
  • Paul endured persecution and imprisonment, yet wrote from prison that we should “Rejoice Always”! 2
  • James said to “count it all joy when you fall into trials” 3
  • John said his “joy was full” 4.

Each of these men experienced times of persecution when they had neither finances nor good circumstances, the things many of us believe are necessary for an abundant life, yet they continued living abundantly! While abundant living CAN involve things such as abundant finances and good circumstances, it is not dependent upon them.

The true abundant life Jesus offers you is so much deeper. The things they knew and lived by are written in scripture for us to live by as well!

Yet, we must ask the question: “If what they knew is available to us, why aren’t more people experiencing the promise of abundant life today?”

Why Isn’t everyone experiencing the promise of Abundant Life?

Because many of us today are not doing our part and walking in the same principles these men lived by. Abundant life is a promise Jesus has already made and fulfilled to us. If we desire to experience that promise, we must choose to live by the principles taught in His Word. We must apply the keys we find in scripture. Only then will we experience the abundant life Jesus has offered us!

In my next post, I will further explain what biblical abundance is and what keys we must apply to our life.
